Solution to the Windows Vista Problems:

SYMPTOM: Windows is still not letting the filterpak start up:

IMPORTANT: This problem should ONLY exist if you previously attempted to install the Filterpak for Windows Vista using an earlier version of WiseChoice which wasn't compatible with Vista. Of course, the current version is compabible with Vista! But a previous attempt to download a previous version that wasn't compatible with Vista can sometimes cause problems when attempting to install the latest version on Vista. The symptom of this problem is that Vista will still block Unwise (Filter7.exe) from starting up with the computer.

The way to fix this is the do the following:

  1. Click the start button
  2. Click the computer option
  3. Double-click drive C
  4. Double Click on Program Files Folder
  5. Double click on S4F Folder
  6. Right click filter7.exe
  7. Select Properties menu option
  8. Select compatibility tab
  9. Make sure the option at the bottom “Run the program as an administrator” is NOT checked. If you have to uncheck this box click apply and then click okay.
  10. Restart the pc
  11. Once the pc is restarted the filterpak should now b running normally.

If you are STILL getting the following filterpak error:

Critical Error
Your internet filter is not running.
Start filterpak to get internet access.

If this message appears directly after installation before the pc is rebooted then this error is nothing to worry about and will go away. The reason it does this is because Vista has decided to try to activate filter7.exe but the pathway to running it is not yet built thusly there is an error.

If this message comes up during normal operation of the machine then something or someone has terminated the filter7.exe windows process. To fix this simply do the following:

  1. Left-click the start button
  2. Left-click all programs
  3. Double-left-click the filterpak for windows folder
  4. Double-left-click filter7.exe
  5. Sign-in to enable filtering. The filter should now work
