Make Internet filtering part of an overall strategy which
includes these rules:
- Put the computer in a central location in your
home which gets lots of traffic. NEVER let your children have a
computer connected to the Internet in their room behind closed doors.
- Have a regular routine of checking the history
files on your computer to see where everyone has been surfing. And
make sure your family knows you're checking.
- No chat rooms, unless it is controlled chat where
the only folks allowed in are there by permission.
- Do not leave your children, no matter what age,
on the computer as a baby sitter when you need to be away.
- Password-protect your Internet access, and do not
let your children have access without your permission.
- Talk openly with your family members about the
dangers and keep each other accountable.
